Meaning of Making Miniature Pots

When I began, I was inspired by the miniature pots made by the Swedish potter Berndt Friberg and made similar miniature pots. But I had no understanding of nor could I describe why I found this approach so interesting. Initially, the most important point of my research was understanding the idea of miniatures and improving upon Friberg’s work.

I came to understand the meaning of making miniatures through the practices for the past two years. Miniature series also relate to the issue of the relationship between artists’ bodies and their works. It is a challenge to test the limits of what a human body can make on such a small scale. The different point of this concept from the first stage when I imitated Berndt Friberg is that it is not about making small pots but challenging the limits of a small scale.

I am going to continue to try to make the smallest pots I possibly can.

THE POWER OF BIZEN

I visit the exhibition THE POWER OF BIZEN at Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation. This exhibition  was organised by six young bizen artists.  Their works were traditional bizen styles and it was very beautiful.  I felt the power of traditional Japanese ceramics.  I have to explore making beautiful ceramics, even if I have special concept.

Exhibition in Netherlands

I had an exhibition in Netherlands. I showed miniature pots with cabinets and bowls made by feet with a video of making process.

Aim
○To research proper prices of my works in the market.
○To investigate reaction to my works in Dubai.
○To practice of working with a gallery.

 Evaluation
The main aim of this exhibition was selling my works through a gallery and thinking about the prices of my works. I priced a little bit higher price compared with my normal price, because I often think my pricing is not proper. I think pricing in this time was proper, I sold a lot of works as this price.

Making pots everyday "Diary"

I have been making small pots every day. For a long time, I found myself unable to satisfactorily describe this production. However, when I placed several hundred pots on a table in Dubai, I thought I could understand it as a kind of diary of my daily practice. It was an aggregate of the traces of my daily actions.

My research focus on the relationship between human bodies and materials in the making processes. I can say that making pots everyday is recording my daily actions.  It is writing a diary by using my body.

Market Research - COLLECT 2015-

I visited COLLECT 2015 in saatchi gallery to research the craft market.

The number of works that focus on glazes is small. There are a lot of no glaze porcelain and clear glazed porcelain.

This work made by Rupert Merton was similar to my pots. He showed many pots in the cabinets. His display way and pricing would be good reference for me.
