Richard Deacon -ceramic works-

Richard Deacon(born 1949) is a British sculptor and a winner of the Turner Prize. His works are made of many kinds of materials( wood, polycarbonate, leather, metal etc).Recently, he put effort into making ceramic works.

He treats ceramics as one of material to make sculpture, its different from familiar ceramic artists who focus on only ceramics. Therefore his works have unique points, for example his glazing is not restricted by traditional ceramic rules or styles.

Untraditional way is a attractive point of his works, I think I have to consider ceramics except stereotype. But I Cannot forget my standing point as a ceramic artist, in other words, I also need to reconsider attractive points of traditional ceramics.

Repetition minimal art

Carl Andre

Donald Judd

Dan Flavin

Brancusi's endless column influenced Carl Andre. Then a lot of minimal artists adopted repetition in their works. Their works are good references like Brancusi's works.

I tried to make sculpture by repeat of similar ceramic unites. However it was totally same as other minimal artists. I need to develop 'repartition' by other way.

Constantin Brancusi - Endless Column-

Endless Column

Constantin Brancusi(1876-1957) was a Romanian-born sculptor.
Constantin Brancusi’s Endless Column is the important work to research the relationship between scale and art. This work made by repetition of simple units, and he made image of endless by this way. This idea is useful to make huge scale work by limited craft work.
